Job duties:
The primary function of the email marketing associate director is to lead the retention email marketing group for all DBI sites including book, DVD, and music as well as any new business that requires on-going marketing support. More specifically, this includes:

  • Managing variable email marketing budget across branded clubs
  • Developing email marketing strategy to meet business plan
  • Developing testing plans designed to optimize email marketing campaign performance
  • Managing a team of email marketing specialists to execute email marketing promotions efficiently
  • Overseeing campaign and testing reconciliation
  • Managing the email marketing list

The email marketing associate director will divide time proportionate to the amount of sales each club contributes to the overall business while taking into consideration senior management priority as well. Day to day tasks that map to the aforementioned functions include:

  • Create bottom up forecast against business objectives, reconcile return on investment on an on-going basis and manage terms and conditions with email service providers
  • Plan promotional email initiatives projected to reach online sales goals, plan and launch promotional   triggered email messages to replace manual campaign process for reoccurring campaigns, and maintain and optimize transactional emails
  • Test offers, creative/copy, list segmentation and frequency
  • Oversee process between marketing team and creative, legal, merchandising, database marketing, and IT as well as our ESP of record
  • Review weekly reports from SAP and Omniture with direct reports to optimize campaign performance for future marketing plans
  • Increase list size through ePrimary efforts to catalog recipients as well as eAppend efforts, manage health of list by analyzing response metrics and pruning bad names to reduce costs and increase efficiency, minimize unsubscribe rate through frequency option implementation

Job requirements:

  • 5+ years relevant experience required
  • Prior experience with online media is essential
  • Background in direct marketing business required
  • Bachelors degree required with a focus in business studies
  • Strong management experience required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Basic understanding of key marketing metrics
  • Ability to read and interpret data
  • Must be able to develop and execute new marketing initiatives
