The Smithsonian Media Marketing internship offers a unique opportunity to learn about all aspects of the media spectrum while making meaningful contributions to marketing, publishing, sales projects and building writing, personal, organizational and event/project management skills. The ideal candidate will be thoughtful, self-motivated, and academically inclined, with great attention to detail and the ability to work successfully as part of a team.

Smithsonian Media works closely with all media outlets including the magazines (Smithsonian and Air & Space), websites, and the Smithsonian Channel to promote the Smithsonian Institution’s unparalleled authority in the fields of history, science, technology, and art.

Major Duties

*Engage in event planning with clients, government institutions, and sales representatives.

*Research clients and media agencies

*Help prepare presentation decks for sales meetings

*Assist Marketing team and Group Publisher with editorial and sales support

*Manage materials to sales representatives and clients, as well as inventory

*Respond to general requests about Smithsonian Media, serve as the primary public contact point

Desired Characteristics

*Excellent writing skills

*Good communication skills; able to effectively express thoughts and ideas easily in groups and one-on-one

*Professional, courteous manner

*Ability to multi-task and complete complex projects in a timely manner

Education/Other Experience

*Proficiency in Microsoft Office and PC platform

*Engaged in BA/MA degree program

*3.5 GPA

Internship Details

*Located in New York, NY (Near Grand Central)

*3 months in duration

*24 hours a week, Monday/Wednesday/Friday, flexible schedule

*Unpaid internship; $750 Stipend available.
