Essence, the definitive voice of today’s dynamic African American woman with over 7.1 million readers monthly, is seeking an experienced Executive Director, Marketing.

The Executive Director will manage a team that collaborates with both the print and online sales teams to develop research, best-of-class presentations, “big” idea and platform generation and program execution.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Manage, Train & Build the Integrated marketing team to ensure their productivity and development within the department and within Essence.

• Big Idea Generation: Collaborate with sales and marketing team to develop and sell “big idea” integrated opportunities including but not limited to print, digital, event (EMF) and retail.

• Program Development & Management: Develop new events, programs, retail extensions and marketing initiatives commensurate with assigned categories and platforms and oversee their management, execution and fulfillment.

• [Category Development: Develop category-specific (CPG, Pharma, Automotive, Beauty) strategies including marketing programs, competitive landscape and industry trends/category updates.

• Presentation Development and Execution: Create/write compelling proposals, presentations, marketing concepts and/or brand positioning presentations both at Essence and across the Style and Entertainment group (for corporate (i.e. – cross brand) programs).

• Client Meetings: Attend big idea sales calls to present marketing platforms and client-specific opportunities.

• Project Management: Responsible for the overall management and daily workflow process of team’s projects

• Program Management: Responsible for managing all aspects of assigned category and custom marketing programs from conception through implementation and/or fulfillment.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required, minimum 10-12 years marketing experience, preferably in media/advertising. Some digital experience, either at a website or through an integrated marketing role at a magazine or agency, is required

• Proven management experience and interest in developing and fostering growth– must have the ability to both challenge and motivate the staff

• Extensive experience in creating and developing compelling integrated marketing programs and platforms

• Innovation, professionalism and resourcefulness – highly organized and a desire for excellence

• Must be a creative thinker and extremely solutions-driven

• Team player and partner to marketing & sales colleagues and management team

• The Executive Director must possess a passion for the publishing and entertainment industries as well as the overall Essence brand and effectively translate that passion and energy to their team as well as their overall day to day business practices

• Knowledge of advertising sales, magazine marketing, digital media and related research (MRI, Media Metrix, Nielson NetRatings, @Plan, PIB, ABC, etc.)
