The Sr. Manager/Associate Director of Public Relations is primarily responsible for business and consumer publicity for Hearst’s various magazine brands and other executive initiatives.  This position supervises other staffers and oversees the PR efforts for several of the company’s consumer magazines, including O, The Oprah Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, Redbook and Seventeen.

Duties
· Promote magazine editorial and business achievements, as well as brand extensions, digital initiatives, partnerships and events, for each title and special interest publications.
· Work directly with executives, senior staff, editors and publishers on media opportunities.
· Serve as a spokesperson for individual titles and for the corporation when necessary.
· Liaise with and manage public relations agencies and other vendors on contract.
· Produce written materials, including press releases, statements, briefing material for the executives, pitch letters for media and other communications.
· Supervise other staff members on titles that fall under the associate director’s purview.
· Assist director on corporate initiatives, crisis management and management of team.

The candidate will have a minimum of 7-10 years of direct experience in media relations/public relations: generating results with business and consumer press; interaction with company executives and senior staff; managerial experience; liaison with PR firms; and will possess excellent written and oral skills. Experience in public relations for a magazine or publishing interest is preferred.  Experience or strong interest in fashion also preferred.   Prior management experience preferred. Must be experienced writer with copyediting skills, as well as conversant in social media and aware of the latest social media trends.  Attention to detail is mandatory.
