Position Title:  Account Manager, Home & Garden (Chicago/Midwest)

Location: Chicago

Position Description:

Reader’s Digest has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Advertising Sales Executive

to sell advertising and integrated media packages for The Family Handyman, our newest

launch Fresh Home, and several other titles in our home and garden portfolio.

We seek a highly energetic and strategically motivated individual that is goal oriented and

willing to go the extra mile to achieve both individual and team goals.  The successful

candidate will be a strong conceptual seller, able to put together strategic and integrated

programs for their clients’ success.  Additionally will be responsible to:

Grow and manage a diversified account list to meet revenue goals.

Manage an account list and sell advertising space while breaking new accounts

across categories.

Cultivate and maintain relationships to gain business, increase existing business and

break non-running business.

Develop and manage sales territory through personal calls, correspondence,

telephone contact, support services, and client entertainment.

Leverage knowledge of category and marketplace to respond to advertiser’s needs.

Incorporate research and promotion effectively to individualize sales proposals and

presentations.

Provide regular reporting and forecasting on accounts to New York leadership.

In addition to being detail-oriented and well organized, the ideal candidate will possess

excellent presentation skills, be able to juggle a complex mix of print, supplements and

online products, as well as develop and maintain a strong rapport with clients.  Advertising

categories include a diversified list of:  shelter, building materials, men’s and others.

Required Skills:

College degree desired and a minimum of 2-3 years selling advertising space for

consumer magazines.

Must be conscientious and organized to handle diversified account list spanning a

variety of ad categories.

Must have strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication

skills including the ability to make presentations and deal with all levels of

management.

Should have proven selling and negotiation skills and the ability to execute complex

sales strategies with creativity and innovation.

Seeking strategically motivated team player.

Some travel required.

Should have a working knowledge of syndicated research and dealing with ad

agencies.

Must be proficient in Word, Excel and Lotus Notes computer programs.
