Principal Duties and Responsibilities

•  Develop, write, deploy and recap surveys deployed to MSLO panel members to gain insights on ad
effectiveness, MSLO media property usage, consumer trends, panel recruitment, etc.

•  Manage the branding, recruitment and retention of the MSLO reader, user and viewer panels

•  Search for and comb through large amounts of consumer insight data in the development of insight-

based sales pitches category/content 101’s and category expertise

•  Develop strategic, research-based sales pitches using survey results, consumer insights and
syndicated research

•  Work with Sales, Sales Development & Platform Specialists on client-facing and brand/category-
specific research initiatives

•  Update MSLO research data with external sources (e.g., media listings) and internal sources (e.g.,
intranet organization and sales collateral)


Qualifications
•  Undergraduate degree required
•  2+ years of media research experience at either a media research company, publisher or ad agency                                                       •  Experience writing surveys, use of skip-logic, uploading questions into survey software (such as
Zoomerang) as well as an understanding of various deployment strategies                                                                                                   •  Very comfortable with online searches for information, data, trends, etc.

•  The ability to comb through survey results and large amounts of consumer insight data in the
development of survey recaps and insight-based sales pitches

• Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to interact with internal contacts at all levels as
well as to develop communications with MSLO media fans and panel members; must be a strong
writer who understands the nuances of grammar

•  Must be someone who is outgoing and assertive, can take complete ownership of his/her role on a
project while being highly organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated

• This position is in a fast-paced, multi- platform/multi-brand environment and requires someone who
can manage/prioritize multiple assignments, take complete ownership of assigned projects and be
self-motivated

• An understanding of the uses of syndicated research is preferred

Lead the effort to develop sales and marketing communications at InStyle. The range of this works extends from branding statements to category presentations on to custom materials for specific accounts, trade events, etc., and includes all platforms, print and digital.

Interpret syndicated research and apply it to the selling front line. This includes MRI, MRI AdMeasure, ABC, MMR, Magazine Radar, Hall’s, PIB, comScore, @plan, and more. The position educates the broader team on research basics and develops the most compelling sales stories from these sources.

Work with corporate research team to develop primary research studies, accessing InStyle’s Trendsetter panel and other channels.

Develop competitive reporting and analysis for the Publisher and sales management. As data becomes available from PIB, Magazine Radar, MIN and other sources, the Marketing Director provides rapid insights to gauge sales performance.

Help integrated and digital marketing teams position the brand and their programs. The Marketing Director helps these staff members depict the broader context into which their programs fit.

Co-supervise Associate Manager.

Uncover and present news we can use. The Marketing Director mines the leading publications, sites and blogs for ‘news of the world’ that can have direct applicability on calls or be helpful as general background (e.g., retail sales trends, new technology affecting fashion, beauty or retail).

Build the competitive tool kit. Periodically, provide deeper dives into important competitors of InStyle, defining an overall point of view and well as usable info-bytes for a call.

Collaborate with the design department. InStyle puts an emphasis on a defined visual aesthetic. The Marketing Director works with the Creative Services team to ensure that this is carried forward in all presentations and materials.

Beyond ad sales and marketing, interact with a wide variety of individuals and disciplines who work on the InStyle brand, from editorial to consumer marketing to public relations.
