Design/Production Assistant

This is a three-month freelance opportunity filling in for someone on maternity leave. The work would begin in January 09.

Requires:
• a personable, detail-oriented individual with 3-5 years professional experience and a thorough knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Experience in Quark, Flash, Dreamweaver and/or After Effects a plus.
• strong sense of typography and color combined with the ability to work both with existing design templates and create new design directions for select print materials
• excellent telephone manner and writing skills, and organizational skills
• ability to adhere to deadlines

Duties:
• Traffics publications through various stages of production, involving writers, editors, photographers and printers.
• Projects include flyers, brochures, invitations, ads, electronic signage, web graphics
• Executes design and production of 16-20 page 4 color publication:
• Creating thumbnails, providing word counts, modifying as necessary.
• Finessing editorial design
• Obtaining hi-res art work from photographers,
• Uploading/downloading files via FTP sites
• Incorporating multiple rounds of text edits with accuracy.
• Schedules photoshoots
• Oversees extensive photography archive, responds to requests for digital files in a timely fashion.
• Assists in quality control of publications by attending press checks, maintaining distributions lists, facilitating receipts of advance copies, maintaining inventory levels

Responsibilities:
Generating leads by opening the doors to new companies at a variety of
points of entry (marketing teams, brand management, CRM, education, HR,
or consumer communication). Setting-up multiple sales calls. Managing
the sales process from maintaining and managing relationships to
finalizing business. Comfortably presenting RCP’s capabilities
presentation.

Identifying opportunities for CRP program execution. Responding to
opportunity by involving the CRP marketing team and determining scope of
program and next steps. Driving the RFP into the house.

Qualifications:
Demonstrated a history of proven sales ability a must. Prior
product/magazine or service was client-side sell. Responsibility as a
non-endemic business categories developer is a plus. Has gained a
comprehensive understanding of strategic marketing and of tactical
industry executions. Experience as a category or business development
manager is preferred. Is comfortable with cold calling.

Having a fundamental understanding of on-line media is essential. A
strong understanding of all communications media is a plus. Custom
publishing experience is not required but is a plus. Single sponsored
advertorial sell is also good background. Also valuable is candidate
who has product management experience working with promotion, crm or
loyalty programs then strong sales results.

Skills:
Demonstrates excellent written and oral communications skills. Shows a
basic level of self-sufficiency with regards to computer skills: Word,
Excel, and PowerPoint software. Individual should be a quick learner.
Strong listening skills coupled with the ability to synthesize
information to formulating concepts will benefit all. Individual must
be organized and disciplined. Takes initiative and is a self-starter.
Natural inquisitiveness leads to a broader base of targets and a deeper
understanding of those clients’ business. Must have a strong ability to
have multiple balls in the air. Must work well in teams.

The Director of Marketing Development will redefine the way integrated sales solutions and sales products are developed for the USA TODAY brand, acting as a strategic driver for product, capability and partnership development, skillfully translating new products and product enhancements into strategically competitive sales and marketing solutions for our advertisers, clients and the brand. The Director will provide thought leadership and creative innovation around the evolution of advertising and media, emerging trends and technologies, especially with regard to the print and digital space.
